General Education

General Education in the Wisconsin Technical College System provides a core of knowledge that imparts the common skills, intellectual concepts, and attitudes that every educated person should possess. General Education courses within the Wisconsin Technical College System are offered to support occupational programming and they are selected from the areas of Communication (both oral and written), Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Social/Behavioral Sciences. All sixteen of our technical colleges offer General Education courses at the aid code 10 level to support the AAS (Associate in Applied Science) or the AAA (Associate in Applied Arts) degrees.

More information about General Education can be found in the Educational Services Manual (ESM).

Liberal Arts & Sciences

Currently five Wisconsin Technical College System Districts are authorized to award the Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) of Liberal Arts Degree: Madison College, Milwaukee Area Technical College, Nicolet Area Technical College, Chippewa Valley Technical College and Western Technical College.

These programs provide the first two years of a four-year baccalaureate college education. The AA (Associate of Arts) degree generally includes more courses focused on humanities, history, and the social and behavioral sciences. The AS (Associated of Science) degree focuses more of its courses in the math and sciences areas.
