Teaching the Skills That Matter (TSTM) Pilot Training

Help us pilot this exciting new training. We are looking for 10-12 participants.

What is TSTM?

The Teaching the Skills That Matter in Adult Education project (TSTM) trains teachers to integrate the skills that matter to adult students using approaches that work across critical topics.

 Using the project’s tools and training, adult education teachers can teach the transferable skills students need in these critical contexts.

  • Appropriate for Adult Education and English as a Second Language students
  • Can be used  in correctional and community settings
  • Great for HSED/GED or Alternative High School settings
  • Perfect for workforce readiness training and occupational programs

Training Goals

  • Pilot a new online asynchronous instructor training. The training targets the skills that matter in the areas of civics education, digital literacy, financial literacy, health literacy, and workforce preparation and focuses on integrated and contextualized and project and problem- based learning.
  • Participants will be asked to provide feedback on the training and curriculum which will be used to inform revisions and quality improvement. ​

AudienceInstructors, administrators, staff in academic support, instructional designers in adult education, GED/HSED,  corrections, ESL settings.  This training is eligible to count toward FQAS continuing learning requirements.   

Format: Training is 100% online and asynchronous.  Participants will engage with course instructors and other learners through discussion boards and assignments.

Time Commitment: The training is 8 weeks long. Each week covers a TSTM module. Instructors will spend between 2-3 hours per week completing each module.

Participant Expectations

  • Obtain supervisor approval to participate
  • Can dedicate the necessary time per week to complete each TSTM module.
  • Is willing to provide feedback on the curriculum either via a survey or a brief meeting with the course instructors.
  • Is open to adapting lessons and trying new strategies out in class.
