Apprenticeship
Director: Jamie Bernthal
Refer to the WTCS Educational Services Manual, Chapter 8 Working with Apprenticeships for complete guidance on WTCS Apprenticeship programs.
Apprenticeship is an “Earn While You Learn” model of occupational training that involves both post-secondary coursework and substantial and well-defined on-the-job learning obtained at the apprentices place of work. Apprentices are hired first by their apprenticeship sponsor/employer and then referred to the WTCS for classroom instruction. The WTCS offers related instruction for over ninety occupations across many career clusters, including construction, manufacturing, utilities, information technology, agriculture, healthcare, natural resources, transportation, and hospitality and personal service sectors.
Examples of reference resources provided below include the WTCS systemwide college apprenticeship contacts and websites, information about the Technical Studies-Journey Worker Associate of Applied Science Degree pathway for apprentice completers, the most recent WTCS Apprentice Completer Report, and the upcoming calendar for the seasonal State Apprenticeship Trade Advisory Committees meetings.
See the navigation menu at left for additional resources including the WTCS apprenticeship curriculum standards and current Teacher Training courses for apprenticeship trade trainers.
